Outcome of Korea-Slovenia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

1. On Tuesday, June 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Anže Logar, who was on an official visit to Korea from June 6 to 9, and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including Korea-Slovenia relations, Korea-European Union cooperation, cooperation in the international fora, and regional affairs.

 

2. The two Foreign Ministers appreciated that the two countries have continued high-level exchanges even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and agreed to elevate bilateral relations in various areas ranging from political affairs to economy and culture on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries next year.

 

° Foreign Minister Chung welcomed that Slovenia decided to establish a Slovenian Embassy in Korea, and said that the decision will serve to further strengthen bilateral relations.

 

° Foreign Minister Logar stated that Slovenia made the decision to establish a diplomatic mission in Korea, taking into account the importance of its relations with Korea. He also explained that Slovenia has a great untapped potential to be a hub of transport and logistics in Central and Eastern Europe, and voiced hope to boost trade and investment between Korea and Slovenia in the years ahead.

 

3. The two Foreign Ministers agreed to deepen relations between Korea and Slovenia as well as cooperation between Korea and the EU during Slovenia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of this year. The two Foreign Ministers also agreed to advance the Strategic Partnership between Korea and the EU continuously by closely communicating and cooperating on global issues such as response to climate change and COVID-19.

 

° Foreign Minister Logar congratulated Korea on its successful hosting of the P4G Seoul Summit at the end of May and commended the Korean government for its contribution to response to climate change through various measures and international cooperation.

 

4. The two Foreign Ministers exchanged their views on the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in the Western Balkans.
